13 Margosa
Mahal, (a play in Kannada) is a haunting
story which has been everyone’s favorite for reasons unknown. Our main
objective for this play is that the audience laugh & get scared at the same
time. Thats why the tag line "Horror was never so funny". Being associated with
theater we had this urge to create a thriller and bring out the chills and
thrills through it. 13 is our attempt to create a play which will keep the
audience interested throughout and take them on a mysterious journey. |

As we all know funding a play like this becomes taxing for any theatre group. Our modest budget for sets and other initial investments adds up to a little over a lakh. We need the support of Good Samaritans and patrons of the arts for our production, and in return, there are many ROI schemes, which we have in our basket. Kindly get in touch with us on prakasamtrust@gmail.com or call us on 9880487682 and we would love to meet up with you to discuss the same. The first shows are planned on November 13, 2011, coinciding with the date 13. |

The story was born in early 2000 when Sathish was out on a trek and around the camp fire in the night, like a practice ghost stories were doing rounds. The story of strange places, strange happenings, strange beings, strange houses, strange properties evolved into the basic storyline for 13. Later on Sathish developed this into a short story and developed a one line script for a play. Ameshea Brown from America later on took interest in the blog posted about this play and volunteered to write the script for the same. Now the play is taking a contemporary |

What I have
noted largely in the past five years is that there is a fixed set of
audiences for both Kannada & English theatre productions. Wherever there is
a production we have the same set of audiences watching the play at
different venues and more than 70% of the audience is repeated. This is not
an encouraging development for healthy theatre, as we are not adding new
audiences. This also stands out as the main difference between theatre in
Bangalore and in other theatre-rich cities. As an old school theatre
enthusiast, just mentioning or discussing this point was not enough for me.
I felt a need and desire to do something about bringing back the masses into
theatre. Other large theatre groups are staging the same old Shakespeare,
Karnad, Karanth and the likes. My discussions with various theatre groups
and eminent personalities led me to figure out a way for myself. |

This is Sathish's sixth production under the Pra.Ka.Sam & Fourth Corner banner. He has been working with different theatre groups from India at different times. After his hibernation or disappearance for three years, the Ranga Shankara festival in 2004 put him back in line with active theatre. He currently runs Kala Soudha as its Director and aims to run the place to encourage new talent and to bring out performances that are fresh and unique. He is now acting as Paddu in Panduranga Vittala, a Kannada sitcom, on Zee Kannada. He is still known for his theatre columns in newspapers and with special reference to the Sunday reviews in the Times of India. For his personal profile CLICK HERE & Artist Profile CLICK HERE |
