About
The Play
The name
still rings a bell in many hearts with the screen adaptation of
the same name starring the icon of Kannada movies, Dr. Rajkumar.
The name literally means New Light or the mild but melting dawn
light of the sun. Like the millions of Kannadigas we are
influenced by this cult classic movie about a man and his heroic
efforts to uplift a girl in distress. Music for this movie made
this eternal thanks to well timed songs and music by M. Ranga Rao.
We also read Vani’s classic novel by the same title to realise
that it was not hero-oriented but rather a feminist tale, where
the hero is just a medium for the heroine to achieve her freedom.
But it’s still the silver screen version, which won acclaim for
the story of Vatsala.
We have combined both the scripts used for the movie as well as
the novel and created a stage version, which is bound to entertain
everyone. The idea of the play is to bring the masses back into
theatre. Theatre is another medium of entertainment and Hosabelaku
aims to do just that., with the twists and turns needed to keep
the audience at the edge of their seats. The auditions were held
at Kala Soudha on the 18th of September 2010. The first shows
were on October 30, 31 & November 1, 2010 coinciding with
Kannada Rajyotsava.

About The Director: P D Sathish Chandra
This is Sathish's fifth production under the Fourth Corner banner.
He has been working with different theatre groups from India at
different times. After his hibernation or disappearance for three
years, the Ranga Shankara festival in 2004 put him back in line with
active theatre. He currently runs Kala Soudha as its Director and
aims to run the place to encourage new talent and to bring out
performances that are fresh and unique. He is now acting as Paddu in
Panduranga Vittala, a Kannada sitcom, on Zee Kannada. He is still
known for his theatre columns in newspapers and with special
reference to the Sunday reviews in the Times of India. For his

Meghashree as Vatsala
She hails from a family
of creative geniuses. She was a find for us when we staged Bogie and
now has taken the reigns of starring in the lead for Hosabelaku. |
Khuldeepak as Ravi
Khuldeepak aka KD came
as a cold storm into our auditions. He was composed even when
we tried to tickle his funny bones or when we tried to scare him.
His experience in theatre and TV is an added advantage to us. |
Gagan as Vasu
He actually wanted to
play Sharma but the way he speaks and his ease with speed of Kannada
suited im to play the posh American boy Vasu. He too comes with
theatre experience and is an asset to the production. |

Raji
as Rajeshwari
She came in as a life
saver when we really needed some one experienced to fill up the
lengthiest role of our play. With enormous experience she
captains the cast ship and her expertise has helped our team. |
Aditya as Murthy
The question bank of
our team. Tackles director with lot of questions regarding the play
as well as his acting, among which few are genuine which others back
to ask directly in front of the director. |
Santosh as Gopal Rao
Always smiling and
composed he justified what was in our minds as the character of
Gopal Rao. His mannerisms and speaking style too complements
the calm character of Gopal Rao. |
Ankitha as Latha
She is quiet and
soft spoken unless provoked. With no experience of playing
similar characters previously she gets freshness to the character as
well as the whole team. |

Sharma - Nagraj
The observant smart boy of our
production. He speaks low, he speaks more but when he speaks all
are forced to listen. Yet his enthusiasm keeps us al going. |
Rekha
as Veda
Meticulous and charming she fills
in half of our group's space with her smile and the other half with
her chatter. An unique find to costume department first and
later also on stage as Veda. |
Chandan - Script/Prodn/Rowdy
Chandan has been with
Fourth Corner production from the first production. He has
stood as test of time and has proven time and again his skills as
production in charge, actor & with this as playwright.

Venky
-
Light
He is
the bright less spoken boy and silently has been taking care of most
of the backstage work.
We look up to him to light up Hosabelaku. |
Ashwin
- Production/Rowdy
Ashwin like many of
our masters of production came in to act. But has single
handedly controlled production with special crisis management
skills. He still insists on getting us the best food at the best
prices. |
Santosh - Music
Mgmt.
He is a
talented software engineer who can do what is expected out of him with
engineering precession. He is the official promoter of the script and
has stood by his job giving lines to all characters of the play when
they messed it up and missed it completely. |
Guru
- Production
When he is not
managing Kala Soudha he is busy managing the chaos the Hosabelaku
team is creating around Kala Soudha. The backbone of Kala
Soudha is also helping us immensely with production of this play. |
