Kattalu...

Phantom of the Opera, King of darkness:

Introduction: After our first attempt at thriller Bembidada Bhootha 2005 and comic thriller/horror 13 Margosa Mahal in 2011 we were constantly bounced with the question why not pure horror. This materialised into the thought of “Kattalu” (Darkness) after 13 Margosa Mahal show on Friday the 13th, December, 2013. Prakasam contacted Jaidev Mohan its aide from 2003 to come into the team with director’s role. The concept originated with series of discussions in December 2013 and the skeleton originated with inputs of Prakasam’s director P D Sathish Chandra.

Plot: Kattalu deals with a team of young theatre enthusiasts who are rehearsing a drama with the same name in a supposedly haunted auditorium. During the process of the event a series of unexplainable/paranormal incidents haunt the team. People go missing and there is a death on stage. The actor portraying death dies on stage to the shock of the rest the man never gets up. Panicking team goes through a lot of mess and are revealed with the truth which will shock the audiences as well.

5D: This was Prakasam’s invention for Kannada theatre. 13 Margosa Mahal created a new wave of entertaining audiences and was applauded by media, theatre peers and audiences equally. This was compared with the comeback of amateur theatre into the level of yester year’s company drama. 5D stands for enthusing and entertaining audiences using all their five senses. More information about this is available at www.prakasamtrust.org/13

Characters: The play has seven characters. KK the director, Gowda the technician, Pammi AKA Padmini the costume and set property designer, Robin & Swamy two male and Tara & Sparsha two female actors.

Features:

  • Second 5D play from Team Prakasam.
  • The play designed to scare and get screams out of the audiences.
  • The audience become integral part of play since the play is designed inside the auditorium.
  • Ease of use of technology to aid the 5D effects.
